I discovered Elfkowitz through a co-worker, he knew him through a mutual friend. The first time I listened to his album “Prolific” I knew it was going to find its way towards the top of my favorite albums.

A Michigan native, from Oakland county now living in Chicago living the dream. His music is different from the rest, and in my personal opinion if your music is on Pandora, Soundcloud, Grooveshark and iTunes you’ve made it. He is also doing shows with other great artists.

Ian was kind enough to fill out our Q&A below.
______________________________________________

Q: What’s your approach to creating a song?
A: well, i usually work in the morning or early afternoons and what i do is i hum. i hum something i think i like of i think might sound cool, then i open up ableton and i make it. now the track with change from that original hum, but thats what usually gets my going.

Q: What is your overall goal for the future of your music?
A: thats a tough one. i have been trying for a while now to figure out a new sound, but since its gonna be new im not really sure what it sounds like, yet, but i think im close.

Q: What things inspire you?
A: real life sound effects, every sound i hear from a door closing to a train. i constantly have music stuck in my head and its not always a song already, so the sound effects add to the songs in my head. is that crazy? am i crazy?

Q: How do you feel about the music industry today?
A: no comment

Q: Who’s currently rocking your world as a producer/artist and why?
A: animal collective hands down. because they consistently make new music that is NEW. every album they make is different in its own way and great in its own way also. they blow my mind.

Q: What is the prognosis for the music industry: terminal decline or steady recovery?
A: i think we are on a terminal decline right now, but if we stick around long enough that steady recovery will eventually come, i hope.

Q: Give some advice or daily motivation to your fans and people reading this,
A: dont be afraid of difference.
